A kampung life for me (part one)

Picture courtesy of movie " Stand by me#

My mom and dad used to live in a village when they were young before their family moved to the city.

When I was in primary school,  my parents would go back to my mom's hometown regularly on  weeekends, school holidays , fasting month......We were joined by my mom's sister her husband and (at that time) her four children, my cousins.

I  was fortunate enough to have a comfortable village (kampung) experience compared to mom when she was a child. Why I say comfortable , was because my mom and aunt would reminince on the good old times where there was no electricity and they used candles to study.

( Which is pretty impressive, we have electricity now and still we wear glasses. None of our grandparents or relatives wear glasses ).

Where there was no gas stoves and they had to go find firewood  and cook the food on fire. How they would blow to make sure that the fire on the brick cooking place would not die down. Well lucky they did that in the good old days ,  nowadays  it would have been known as child labour, asking a child to collect firewood pleaaaaaassssssssssssseeeeeeeeeee what if the child got eaten up by a wild boar!

We cringe at the thought of using the candles to go to the toilet.

What I remembered when I was eleven or twelve years old, my grandmother's house was made of wood. It was a two flooring house, the ground floor was the kitchen,  a small bedroom, the  bathroom and the dining area. Nowadays ,when you say bathroom it comes with a toilet, back before renovation  then bathroom and toilet were seperated. The bathroom was inside the house and the toilet was outside. Just behind the house.

Imagine having to answer the call of nature in the middle of the night, having to go out  of the house , holding a flaslight,  going into  the toilet which is slightly bigger than a telephone booth ......And its a squating toilet!

Now , my grandmother had a huge area, where she planted durian trees , mangoesteen,it was huge with bushes and all the  creepy crawlies that come with it! There you are, squating  on the toilet, listening to your surrounding sounds ( the orignal surround dound system, amazing how things can be magnified when your scared), cricket, frogs, owls, trees rustling , all alone in that dark toilet , trying very hard to push nature to take its course in super sonic speed.

You think being the one inside was scary, no it was actually being the body guard outside that was more terrifying. Being children, at that time there was no way we would show bravado  by going to the toilet by ourselves. Definetely we would go in pairs. Our hyper imaginative mind would go on overdrive standing outside alone either holding a flashlight or a candle. All by ourselves out there, in the dark, with nobody else except for my cousin who was in the toilet.Shining my flashlight at any direction that had weird noises.

While the rest of my family members were at the first floor happily watching televisyen.
 "ARE YOU DONE YET?"
"NOT YET"
"ARE YOU DONE YET?"
"NOT YET!!!!!!

CRASH !!!!! What was that ? I jumped.

Hantu!!hantu!!! (Ghost!ghost!)

I screamed and dashed up to the first floor startling everyone there.

WHAT HAPPEN?

Ghost ghost ghost , little me jumping around.

Where's your cousin?

I stopped "oh yeah....."

From the ground floor you can hear another scream.....MOMMMY

Fogging experience

It was 15th January 2010.During that time I was working in Subang Jaya , Ss15.

I always parked my car at Subang Square in the basement.

I was tired, sleepy and grumpy that day. Time was 7.00 pm.

I got into my car.....Turn the keys..

Nothing..What was supposed to be the rumbling of the engine turned into silence.I turned the key again. And again there was silence. I sat there staring at the dashboard.

I turned the key again...
Okay..

Great...this was great..The basement was almost empty. I got out of the car..Looking around to see an sign of life.

Now what?

I  got into the car again, ever so gently turn the key thinking that I was too  rough with the little fella. Cars have feeling too look at Bumble Bee from transformers.

I turned the key again. Nothing...Numbly, I got out of the car, I closed the door...That was when the alarmed went off. TUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTUUUUUUUTTTTG. The sound echoed through the walls of thedarken basement , magnifying the noise.Panicky, I clicked the alarm button on the key. Red,  green , I even clicked on the key but nothing seemed to work. The car was giving out loud truant  sounds. It was as if the car was CURSING at me. I quickly open the door and the alarm stopped. I closed the door, the alarm starts. OPEN , CLOSE, OPEN, CLOSE.
I went up to the first floor and called Elvin, thinking that he was at the office.
Poor Elvin was having his dinner near Subang Parade. Elvin galantly said that he will come to help......once he finished his dinner :P

My hero......Never mind finish your dinner you need your strength. (that was in my imagination lah)
Elvin told me to call the motor assistance number on my insurance card (which I luckily found it) I called and waited....and waited...

Elvin reached my place waaaaay before the motor assistance personnel came.

So there I was, with Elvin outside the building waiting for the motor assistance to come. We saw smoke coming out from the side of Subang square.
"Bom ke ?" asked Elvin. Both of us went to investigate. The fog came from the sewage It seems  that they were doing fogging that night.
We thought that they were fogging outside the building, boy were we wrong!!

15 minutes later the motor assitance mechanic came.. He brought his equipment to jump start the car. The three of us went down the basement through the elevator.

The moment the elevator door open, we were engulfed with white smoke and there was a  strong fuel smell. It was like stepping into the Aliens mothership (put that scene along with the 'Final countdown 'theme song). The whole basement was white. I could hardly see one corner to another! Luckil II had parked my car nearer to the elevator.
Elvin couldn't stand the smell, so the mechanic and I braved the fog and headed towards my car. (Elvin later joined us, wearing his hanky tied around his nose and mouth, like a cowboy bandit)
The smell was so intense,I was starting to feel dizzy
The mechanic  jump start the car. At first it seemed fine and the engine blissfully came alive rumbling loudly in the smog. I waved goodbye to Elvin, he  was about to turn and go, when I turned on the light and the engine died again. It took three jump starts to keep my car alive and nearly suffocating the three of us from the heavy fog when it started rumbling again.

By that time all three of us were blurry eyed and coughing. All of us jump in my little kelisa and I drove the two men out of Subang Square basement.I said 'thank you' to both of them and went my way home. Praying and praying that  the car wouldn't break down in the middle of Federal Highway...Now THAT  would be a nightmare.

my gallery part 4

Hi,

Haven't post much lately been busy with work and stuufs but here's some things that I've been working on.

This is a doodle I did for my notebook cover. So that if it ever get lost in my job place , people will know who it belongs to.

Granted if it got lost outside then I'm in trouble....hehehe doggarnit never thought about that :) !

This piece is a pastel artwork . Hopefully able to sell it off. What does it mean ....hmmmmmmmm.... It 's an orchid (supposedly) , bright light is suppose to show brightness and productivitiy , the butterfly , attract good fortune ( I guess....:) This is only base on my impression  ok :)

This one is just a scribble that I had in mind. The little is looking out on a rainy day and imagining of dragons and ships. The books at her foot are all classic literatures this is to encourage children to play , read and imagine. There's nothing wrong with a litte imagination .

I did another one and painted it with oil paint.

Yaay , I manage to sell of this painting :) watercolor. Of course its for charity but so happy at least  someone is interested  in it :)

This one is done with pen and crayon.

No this sketch I'm using a ballpoint pen. The reference is from an underwater shoot from Benjamin Von Wong . I just felt like doing it. Not exactly the same but hey my interpretation of it hehehehe... enjoy.

Running away - stickman

Admit it everyone tried to run away once in their life. When your a kid and also got scolded by your parents , the first thing that comes out of your head is that you wanted to run away from your home. Your angry and upset, thinking that your parents are being unfair. How lucky those kids in the Goonies were and what adventure that you face if your runaway .

Stickman adventure continuation

Did some cartoons for the past month or so. What happens if you watch Titanic, one too many times

mini gallery part (eer can't remember)

No idea what to post just enjoy the drawings.

On top is called 'Dance with My father' . At first when I started my painting I wanted to just paint a landscape ala the view in Mary Poppins when Burt, Mary Poppins and the children popped up the chimney and walked on the smoke stairs . The view was magnificent alas lacking in the skills it didn't workout as how I wanted it. It was while I was drawing the that the song "Dance with my father again" came out and it went a totally different turn.

I guess what I wanted to reflect here is that the job of a father is never done and it is not the responsibility of the mother to raise the child but the father as well. To spend time, to nuture them , to guide them enhance where the dome comes it , security and education to propel her to enter into the big wide world.

I have no explanation for this except wouldn't it be great to have music and dance in your life.Provided you get the right partner of course.

ola

Ola diary,

Been quite some time that I wrote. Been bum out so many times I lost count how many time I bum out :)

Things weren't going my way.
Love (none existing),
work (god, I wish aliens would invade my work place, or arm soldiers crashed through the glass high beam and held everyone hostage until one of the cardio lecturer did an open heart surgery to save their injured friend, in the middle of the atrium and everyone can watch ! How cool would that be. Ok I'll settle for one of the staffs going hysterical and shouting IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!) and art (sound of a brick thrown of a 13 storey building ad crashing on the pathway)

(oh yeah side note, I'm on instagram @daklin2777)

and I ain't going to talk about my cooking. Did some cooking , ala yours truly science lab experiment. You know where you mix this chemical with that chemical and it all blew up in your face.

That's what happened with me.

For example ; Mitake mushroom, blackpepper dish with potato sauteed with lemon  juice add and soy sauce with anchovy broth.

Actually the anchovy broth saved the day and add flavor to a rather blend (imagine you eating a soggy paper with high dosage of black pepper and an itsy tinsy taste of lemon) ) I was trying to be healthy ! By reducing salt intake however since my taste buds have been numbed from my previous cooking incidents, I thought it didn't matter. Yeah try saying that while eating herbal rice with it.
So I say it again the anchovy broth saved the day. Yaaaaay.

I'll tell the story of my not so mash potato, tomato  and garlic another story.

Gotta go to bed. Sorry so short.

Before going, here's a classic movie homage for you.

See you remember which movie.

Nite.

Watercolor - random paintings

This painting is based on a visit in Paris , of course the original photo is  ghazillion times better but it was hard to resist not to paint it. I'm suddenly hyped on water color .

This one was from a photo taken by my cousin during her Europe tour.
I was a bit wacky during this time , all the paintings are focus on mother and child so why not dads , their great too!!!. This piece is using soft pastel on canson paper.

exercise

Dear Diary,

It has been one of  my resolution from year after year after year after year to be active and exercise more.

Alas year after year after year I faltered in this resolution not to my lack of will power, its just that I have no power to will my self to complete a whole training  course.

My friend introduced me to INSANITY , my god , that man already had a body ofa  beast  and physical power of Hercules himself  before he created insanity and  expected us mere mortals to follow in his foot step?

'Don't stop don't stop."

Are you kidding me!within  10 minutes of the regime I was puffing like a locomotive !Instead of looking younger I had aged 30 years.

Seriously kudos for those who can do it on a daily basis , hat off to you except that I can't move my muscle.

Probably I'm not built for insanity , probably  I should  go into something simpler to pump up that tiny heart of mine.

So I hit the internet to find any exercise that would capture my interest. Then I realised   that there were dozens of fitness dance workout  in youtube. Hip hop , zumba , punk , krump....(you did krump?!!!! hehehe I got you there. Of course ...NOT ) Hip hop and zumba suited me well , so I was doing it almost everyday at the comfort of my living room .

Soon I got bored doing it  at home and found out that there was a gym near my home that also offered zumba.

Why not ? Since I was starting to like exercise and practically doing it every morning why not join a group and I can use the equipment there. So I enrolled as member at X gym and had a blast doing body jam and zumba . Everything was all well and dandy, I was achieving one of my resolution plus losing weight , I was practically hook ! Added with breeze walking and hiking,  the hype was up!Bring it on!
Weekends I was going for jogging as well. I realised that one way to release any stress or anger was to make the exercise more faster , dance more faster , run more faster , jump more harder , I was like a jumping , dancing gazelle (less graceful of course)

And that was when everything went down hill.

One morning I woke up early with an idea to do a short exercise. Short exercise meaning that I wanted to practise this hip hop video that I just watched the previous night, it looked so cool like 'Step up ' kind of cool . I could  see it now Step Up the Next Generation staring yours  truly or Dancing with the Stars with Derek Hough . Now that would be an awesomely cool reality.   For those who are familiar with Fitness Marshall should watch their video , their exercise move is so cool and can definetely leave you sweating (warning  not for those hard core Insanity fans this is more gentler, feminine , like Pride and Prejudice  instead of Mission Impossible 4 style  ( notice how many times that I mention cool in this paragraph  :) ) So I was doing one of the routine where I had to kick my right leg forward, right kick, left kick ,turn jump repeat , 1...2...1....2...I was doing it with so much intensity  that the 'POP' came quite a surprise  and the next thing I knew I was on the floor holding my right leg. I was in denial and  didn't think I was in pain, it's ok its just a short sharp  pain it will blow away once I start walking , and I actually started believe this as I started ready to go to work.

It was when I got out of the car that I realised that my injury was bad and prolonging more than my liking. Stepping down the stairs triggered every receptor in my right leg combining one message , I was in PAIN. Ouch was an understatement AAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHN was more like it as I put all my weight on the railing to reduce the pressure. Seeing the doctor was not an option, plus I see the the doctor so often nowaday they might even think that I'm a Nosophobia. I had my pride so I tried out chiropractic . Regular treatment thankfully reduces the pain .

But you would have thought I learned my lesson.

Na ahh not this beast. After two weeks of rest I hit the gym again.

gym-treadmill-use

I actually heeded the chiro's advice take it easy  (surprise .....surprise) I swear I took it easy ,I really did. I was walking on the treadmill at a slow pace of 60 ...All alone in the gym on a Saturday morning, minding my own business , listening to the pump up background music motivating me to stay longer on the mill.

It was 20 minutes walking when in came  a young girl in her twenties, slim, petite , pretty, young (I think mention that ) using the treamill beside me.  She started on a slow pace , then started going into a running pace - Baywatch style. I did try not to look at her , I did , I did remember  the chiro's words take it easy . But she's so young and running so fast , and I moved down to a walking pace of 40.

Remember your leg remember your leg.

Now her poney tail was swaying left and right  and it looked like her hair was wind blown. How was that possible when the room was fully air condition?

Sweat was running down her face. I wasn't even sweating .From the corner of my eyes I saw  the men at the weight corner looking at her.
That's IT .....I increased my speed 40...50...60...70...slight jogging ...80...90 now I was running.
Haha I was running faster than her. I was pretty proud of myself and confidently running even though my right leg was starting to sting. Two ladies running on the threadmill. After quite some time (give it a minute or two) the pain was increasing , I  didn't want to back down. I can do it , I can do it even though if my leg had a voice it would be screaming Help me! Help me!

I didn't know whether I was delusional from the pain or my pride was overreacting....did she actually pick up the pace?

I can do that ! 100!!! Ha haaaaaa......Take that, you young small petite lady with wind blown hair!

My leg was killing me but I was resilient....oooh who was I kidding I didn't want to be the first to get off the treadmill , I was like a cowboy holding on the rodeo horse until the final bell. Which I hoooooopppe would be really soon. I was feeling like my leg was going to detach from the knee cap.

Thankfully , thankfully .......the young lady finally slowed down and went to the cooling mode. I shakingly slowed down my pace to moderate ,still running , boy I don't think a mule would be more stubborner than me. She finally got off the threadmill and went into the changing room. I looked at her and glanced at the weight section whether they were still there . The men had also gone. I quickly reduce the pace to 30 and started hobbling. I heard a noice from the changing room and quickly straighten my posture , puff my chest forward and galantly walked not showing any indication of pain. The young lady glanced at me and quickly turned away, her hair toss like in a Pantene commercial.I would have done the same had I not worn a 'Tudong'. Yes people that right there was a sign of respect, if it were men they would had grunted and nodded at each other , we women do hair tosses to either admit defeat or respect for a comrade. I was feeling proud of myself right  before I fell on the floor stepping off the threadmill.

That whole weekend  my right leg was beginning to feel heaty and I was limping eveywhere.

Too embarass to meet up my chiro , I secretly went to see a physiotherapist and had to, again undergo several treatments as there was a salight hemorage in my leg.

Right now, I'm back to square one. It has been more than 6 month I hadn't gone jogging since from time to time I injured my leg.
I'm starting to become lazy again , probably I'll start the resolution for next year 2017 :)

Niight for now. ........

message behind horror movies

Horror movies always have a moral story to it. It shows tht lazy and slow people will be the ones hardly get killed. Imagine this how many of those horror movies tht show people doing OT all alone in the office will be murdered either in the toilet, at the parking lot (since their the only one left) even the parkguard wouldnt save u because their too lazy to move around which you would hardly see a parkguard being killed normally their the ones tht is interviewed by the detective the next day when they suddenly realize theres a body. Some movies show pakguard motionless in their station NAh their not dead their just asleep so this confuses the murderer thinking that another killer must have killed the guard hence focusing on you all alone going to your car. SO if ur screaming at the tv asking Where Is the Security Guard? !!!!!!! Now you know why. And what about those lazy bum bum workers? Their actually at home lounging infront of the tv safe and sound and very much alive!!!!
Now lets look at thosr mystrerious calls tht movie shows from murderers. Being a lazy bum bum person u let it ring and ring and ring until the killer get fedup and call another who picks it up at the first call hence enticing the killer. See even horror movies gets It doesnt serve to be slave to your job or being rhajin.psychologically if you look at it the killer could be your health. Tadaaasa u break the horror movie code. Im a genius!
