Jobsearch (just a few crack stories before bedtime)

I just came back from dinner with my close friend. It was a looooong dinner date. Left the office at 7pm and just returned home (ooh around 11.10pm)
I know you would be asking what did you do for almost 4 hours!? Easy we were job hunting.

Being in the same job and doing the same task for the last 5 years has made me bored and restless. A slow dim light has flashed above my head with a softer ting sound ( I know I'm gettting old so my idea light comes in slow mo compared to those youngster below 30 ) It's time to move on to greener pasture, that and because quite a few of my friends has jump the boat (I know I'm using a lot of cliche tonight but hey it's 12 am, my brain has gone soggy)

The idea of finding a new job is not an idea that excites me like it used to, why?because you have to update your resume and you have to go through the tedious process of ........being interviewed.

But now that I have grown older with age (hopefully wiser....hopefully) I hope to amend whatever mistakes that I have done during my previous interview sessions.

1. Be 2 hours earlier before the interview session. One hour is not enough!
Why ? Have you ever played pin ball ? It will hit one obstacle to another obstacle to another obstacle before it goes into the hole? Well that's me I'm sooo disoriented in finding a location that the several times I had to be rescued by the interviewers ! There was one time  I still couldn't find the location and sadly I reported to the interviewer and said in a sad pathetic way that I have to let the company go and that its not my destiny. (suddenly the image of titanic comes into mind and the two lovers were drifted on the plank and Jack told to the girl to let him go ) Well this interview were adament that I reached the destination in fact gave me motivation saying that give it your last shot, you can reach here! I kid you not.....to cut the story short I did go for the interview but I didn't go for the job. BUT ... the interviewer and I separated in good terms.

2. Never detract even though you know the interview is unsuccessful :)
Ok, I went for an interview for a Business Development position and you can always tell that they weren't interested in you when they said , "We will call you IF you are suitable for the position" . I know I should have ended there, politely say my thank yous and leave the room . But NO, I kept quiet for a while and then said , "So.............would I interest you in an investment funds?" I know.........I know I was lucky they didn't drag me out ....I must have MISunderstood the motivation book which states every opportunity counts!

3. You are going for a JOB interview not match making interview!
Hehehe I was following the HR officer  to the interview room when I saw this cute guy. I was totally focusing on eyeing him when I crashed smack into the photocopy machine! (It was that one time!)

4. Prepare your questions and do your homework!
ooooh this is pretty common, you know during interviews , sometimes the interviewer give a long detail of the company and you try to focus .....you really do, but you can hear twilight zone theme song  popping in your head and suddenly black and white spirals begin to appear. When they ask are there any questions? your mind just froze and in the end you entered into a job that you never realise has limited benefits. At least with research and questions , you're well prepared and know your rights ( wow I did learn somethings)

5. Bring your stationaries!

OOOh guilty! One time I actually forgot that I didn't bring a pen and had to borrow it from the front desk......Very unprofessional but I amend my ways after that I always bring a pen!

Phew, so far that's all that I can recall. Dress for the interview, so far I got that right. So heres hoping :)
NITE :)
